Hindustan Zinc partners with AEsir Technologies for Zinc battery development

Udaipur- Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), India’s zinc producer, has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AEsir Technologies, Inc., a US-based company specializing in advanced zinc battery technologies. According to the MoU, Hindustan Zinc will serve as the primary supplier of zinc, a crucial raw material for AEsir Technologies’ next-generation batteries. Zinc-based batteries offer a compelling alternative to other contemporary energy storage solutions, providing higher power output at reduced costs, requiring minimal upkeep, and boasting extended lifespans of up to 20 years. These qualities make them exceptionally suitable for large-scale energy storage in industrial environments.

The MoU line up with Hindustan Zinc’s focus on leveraging zinc in the clean energy transition. Zinc batteries are transforming energy storage with their corrosion resistance, cost-effectiveness, recyclability, stability, and eco-friendliness. They offer wide temperature tolerance and reliable backup power (3-72 hours) compared to other metals. Non-flammable and non-reactive to air and water, they emit no toxic fumes, ensuring safety. Zinc batteries are recyclable, use non-hazardous materials, and have a GHG footprint six times lower than other technologies.

AESir's Nickel Zinc (NiZn) batteries have proven reliability and success in sectors such as advanced defense, aerospace, marine, renewable energy, and critical infrastructure like data centers and 5G telecommunications. Through years of ongoing enhancement in operational environments, AESir's NiZn batteries have effectively resolved longstanding challenges such as electrolyte depletion, dendrite growth, and zinc migration.
