Gaydon, UK-Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has inked a multi-year deal with Fortescue, securing the use of advanced battery intelligence software, Elysia, for its next-generation electric vehicles. This strategic partnership aims to optimize JLR's luxury EVs, ensuring superior battery longevity, safety, and performance.

Fortescue's innovative softwar uses physics-driven digital twins and probabilistic artificial intelligence, detects and resolves battery concerns, aiding JLR in enhancing battery performance and safety standards for its clients.

Fortescue acquired the UK-based Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) in March 2022, claims its best BMS (battery management system) algorithms for delivering increased performance, prolonged battery life, and enhanced safety measures.

Elysia software is set to monitor all upcoming JLR EVs, starting with the new Range Rover Electric launching later this year. JLR anticipates that this implementation will enrich the ownership experience for customers, providing faster charging, improved reliability, and extended driving range.

Continuous monitoring of battery health throughout its lifecycle supports sustainability by facilitating the seamless transition of batteries from electric vehicles to second-life applications. This strategic partnership enables JLR to access comprehensive insights into battery conditions, providing specific recommendations to enhance performance through software updates.

This collaboration is part with JLR's Reimagine strategy, aiming to electrify all its brands by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2039. Similarly, Fortescue has set ambitious decarbonization goals, including the elimination of emissions from its operations by 2030.

Thomas Mueller, executive director, Production Engineering, JLR, said, “Fortescue's technology will provide JLR with even greater access to data analytics, integral as we electrify our entire vehicle portfolio by 2030. As the industry transitions towards electrification, collaborations such as these are paramount, as we look to further enhance the safety, performance and lifetime of our batteries.”

Mark Hutchinson, CEO, Fortescue, said, “This collaboration showcases the very best of cutting-edge innovation and engineering. Through Fortescue’s breakthrough battery intelligence software, JLR will benefit from a new level of access to battery data and a revolutionary way to monitor its products in the real world, ensuring that every product lives up to the brand’s exceptionally high standards. The lessons and innovations we have both learned from motorsport are now being applied to the management of battery systems on our roads, unlocking a leading future of EV performance for JLR’s customers.”
