India - PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt Ltd (PMI Electro) of Haryana, a manufacturer of electric vehicles - which has a technical tie up with Chinese company, Beiqi Foton Motors Co Ltd of Beijing, China to assemble and sell electric vehicles in India - has delivered 23 PMI Foton 9m Midi electric buses Rajkot Bus Rapid Transit System as part of Letter of Award in 2019 and set up ebus depot.

            Also delivered 25 electric buses as part of a larger order to supply 150 electric buses to the Surat Municipal Corporation.

            This new electric bus depot has developed by PMI Electro Mobility over a period of 11 months and has a capacity to support 80 electric buses at a time. The depot is equipped with 14 DC fast chargers that can charge an electric bus battery from 20 per cent to 100 percent in 55 minutes. PMI Electro Mobility will be responsible for operating and managing this electric bus depot for the next 10 years.

PMI Electro Mobility has around 777 electric buses running across the country in 23 cities. The company has a manufacturing capacity of 1,500 electric CVs per annum and can produce three models for standard, midi and minibuses. It has an order size of over 1,300 electric CVs under the FAME-II scheme.

With this, the company has around 50 e-buses running in Rajkot on the BRTS corridor Last month, PMI was awarded another LoA for supplying the Rajkot Municipal Corporation with 100 additional electric buses, making it the largest e-bus provider in the city. (Covered in TBB India Aug 2022).

1PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 2017 following a technical tie up of Beiqi Foton Motors Co Ltd of Beijing, China. PMI Electro Mobility Solutions is a 70:30 joint-venture between PMI Coaches Pvt Ltd and Foton India. 70% shares owned by Foton Motors Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd (a fully owned subsidary of of Beiqi Foton Motors Co Ltd ) 30% shares owned by PMI coaches Pvt ltd.  PMI electro mobility is currently assembling kits from China in Pune and plans to move into manufacturing buses using an element of localised parts in Pune from 2023.

2The PMI Foton 9m Midi Bus is powered with a Permanent Magnetic Motor (PEM) with an output of 135 kW and torque of 1800 Nm and matched with a 100 kWh battery pack chargeable within 30 to 45 minutes. It has a monocoque structure and is fitted with air suspension. Floor height can be varied with options of 650mm and 900mm based on operator requirements. These buses are equipped with a selection of advanced features such as CCTV cameras, RTMS (real-time monitoring systems), and other safety provisions.
