Sweden, Germany- Scania AB., is renowned for low-carbon powertrain options, Scania now offers an LBG/LNG variant of the Scania Touring. Running on natural gas, biogas, or a mix, it supports a smooth transition to biogas, promoting sustainable, economically viable long-distance transport. Gas-driven buses and coaches offer transport operators a sustainable and economically advantageous solution.

The new Scania Touring variant features a 13-litre gas engine with 410 hp and 2000 Nm, offering over 1,000 km of range and improved fuel efficiency. Scania, a leader in biogas technology, now utilizes LBG/LNG, making it a viable solution for long-distance heavy commercial vehicles.

Mr. Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management, People Transport Solutions, Scania, said, “The new LBG/LNG variant of the Scania Touring is an excellent option for express bus- and long-distance operators that want to become more sustainable without a massive investment or negative impact on operations. This product gives you power, torque and range equivalent to that of a diesel-powered bus or coach, while actually reducing noise levels and offering lower operating costs. If you add the sustainability benefits of using biogas, it is a truly outstanding solution.”

Mr. Jonas Strömberg, Sustainable Transport Business Manager, Scania, said, Biogas offers a significant opportunity for decarbonizing heavy-duty transport, especially in long-distance applications, with expanding infrastructure and substantial investments, notably in Europe. With up to 90% CO2 emission reductions compared to diesel, biogas is fossil-free and renewable, fostering sustainable development by creating local jobs, addressing waste issues, and enhancing energy security. Scania's 13-litre gas powertrain presents a highly sustainable and readily available solution for long-distance operators, contributing to quieter, smarter, and more environmentally friendly transport.

Scania's gas engines, developed since the early 1900s, offer versatility by running on natural gas, biogas, liquefied gas, or compressed gas without additives dependency. The new gas powertrain option for the Scania Touring joins Scania's gas portfolio for long-distance transport, including buses like the Scania Beulas DD LBG/LNG and the Scania Irizar i6S Efficient LBG/LNG, enhancing sustainability in the transportation sector.
