Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., a commercial vehicle manufacture, and MPK-Łódź Spółka z o.o., a public transportation provider, has signed a 10-year lease and maintenance contract with Solaris for 63 mild hybrid buses. The order includes 15 units of Urbino 12m buses and 48 units od Urbino 18m buses, to be delivered by late 2024. The buses will be stationed at the Limanowskiego and Nowe Sady depots. One 12-meter bus will be customized for the MPK Łódź Driver Training Center.

The mild hybrid drive in MPK Łódź buses enhances existing recuperative technology by using energy generated during braking. This eco-friendly system, which exceeds EURO 6 emission standards, includes three key components: an electric machine, an energy storage system, and a monitoring driver. During braking, the electric machine acts as a generator, recharging the energy storage. During acceleration, the stored energy is used to support the diesel engine, improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

The Urbino mild hybrid addresses the demand for eco-friendly and fuel-efficient public transport. Recently, Solaris secured a major contract to supply 110 mild hybrid buses to ATAC in Rome.
