Michigan, United States- BorgWarner Inc., is expanding its partnership with Great Wall Motor (GWM) to develop advanced electrified propulsion systems. After two earlier dual inverter projects, the company has now won two more programs with GWM, with mass production set to begin in 2026.
“BorgWarner’s strong technical skills in electrification and dual inverter products have earned Great Wall Motor’s continued trust,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems. “This extension shows our dedication to supporting GWM’s new energy goals and helping them grow their electric vehicle lineup.”
BorgWarner’s dual inverter uses a compact and integrated design that controls two motors with one controller, improving installation and space efficiency. Its proprietary packaging technology allows different power modules to fit into a smaller structure, reducing weight and cost.
The system features a double-sided cooled power module with the latest Viper power switch, cutting thermal resistance by up to 50% compared to single-sided cooling. This boosts power density and helps meet China’s CLTC efficiency standards. The adaptive battery voltage control also widens the motor’s high-efficiency range and enhances performance.
Designed for flexibility, the dual inverter platform supports both hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. The HEV version includes a DC/DC converter and an optional voltage boost module, while the PHEV version removes both for a simpler setup. This modular design helps automakers save time, reduce costs, and improve development efficiency.
