Garrett Motion and HanDe Team Up on Electric Axles for Heavy-Duty Trucks

Rolle, Switzerland- Garrett Motion Inc., an advanced automotive technology, has entered into a strategic partnership with Shaanxi Hande Axle Co., Ltd. (HanDe), a Chinese axle manufacturer for commercial vehicles, to co-develop and produce next-generation electric beam axle systems for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

Announced at Auto Shanghai 2025, the agreement includes a series production award and marks a pivotal step in the electrification of commercial transport. The new systems will combine Garrett’s pioneering high-speed electric motor and in-house inverter technology with HanDe’s proven axle and transmission platforms. The result: scalable, efficient, and high-performance e-axle systems tailored to deliver industry-leading total cost of ownership (TCO), improved energy efficiency, and enhanced drivability.

Engineered to reduce reliance on rare earths and critical minerals, Garrett’s compact, lightweight E-powertrain solution supports sustainable sourcing and lowers operational costs for fleets through reduced energy use and maintenance. Its minimized unsprung mass also enhances handling and vehicle dynamics.

Production is targeted for 2027, with initial manufacturing to take place in Xi’an and Wuhan. Field trials are planned for 2026 as part of a broader global rollout strategy. The partnership has already secured multi-year production awards from major Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers, positioning the joint solution for high-volume domestic and international deployment.

This collaboration underscores Garrett and HanDe’s shared commitment to driving the future of clean, efficient commercial mobility.
