Connecticut, USA - MDS International., a Terex brand and a screening equipment manufacturer, reports strong demand for its flagship M515 Heavy Duty Trommel across North America. Known for producing high-quality, precisely sized rip rap material, the M515 is helping quarries keep pace with rising needs driven by infrastructure development, flood protection, and environmental projects.

In the quarry industry, rip rap is produced by extracting and processing rocks of varying sizes, often as a byproduct of other mining operations. Rip rap, used to stabilize shorelines, reinforce structures, and control erosion, is sorted into five classes ranging from 12- to 34-inch rock. Smaller classes support submerged structures like piers, mid-sized classes are common along riverbanks and embankments, and the largest classes protect high-impact areas such as steep slopes and windmill bases.

Powerscreen Crushing and Screening., a material handling equipment supplier, has made the MDS M515 essential for rip rap production across Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. Especially popular in Chattanooga and Kentucky, the M515 handles large, sticky materials with its rotating drum, turning waste into usable rock. A large hopper, interchangeable drums, and a swing-out engine make it efficient, easy to maintain, and cost-effective to transport.

Mr. Alan Coalter, President of Powerscreen Crushing and Screening, said, “In our territories, we often deal with dirty shot rock, and the trommel makes it easy to clean and reuse material that would otherwise be wasted. It helps quarries keep their operations running longer and more efficiently, which ultimately benefits our customers.”

Mr. Liam Og Murray, Regional sales manager, MDS, said, “As demand for rip rap continues to rise, especially in infrastructure projects, the M515 will be crucial in helping quarries meet those demands. By enabling quarries to make better use of their raw materials, improve operational efficiency, and provide higher-quality products to customers, the M515 not only sets the standard for what’s possible in rip rap processing; it is a catalyst for growth in the North American rip rap market.”

By delivering cleaner, precisely sized rip rap, the MDS M515 isn’t just improving quarry operations, it’s helping reshape the future of erosion control and infrastructure development across the continent.
