Lyon, France - Renault Trucks., a truck manufacturer and a subsidiary of Volvo’s, the E-Tech Diamond Echo, an electric and electroluminescent truck, completed roadshow in Finnish Lapland after covering 23,000 km across Europe. The final leg, with temperatures dropping to -19°C, showcased the reliability of electric trucks in extreme winter conditions.

Since departing from Renault Trucks headquarters in Lyon, the E-Tech Diamond Echo, an electric and electroluminescent truck, has traveled 23,000 kilometers across Europe. It journeyed through France, the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany, covering up to 700 km daily with optimized intermediate charging. The longest single-charge distance was 360 km, between Switzerland and Germany.

In December 2024, the Renault Trucks E-Tech Diamond Echo embarked on the final phase of roadshow to Finland, aiming to showcase electric trucks performance in harsh climates. Upon reaching Finland, the truck covered 1,600 km between Helsinki and Rovaniemi in Lapland, including a 250 km stretch on a single charge and a 700 km day with two intermediate charges. This journey helped dispel myths about electric trucks performance in extreme cold.

Mr. Regis Pierrelle, Director of Electromobility Operations at Renault Trucks, said, “The tests carried out in Finland have confirmed that electric trucks remain fully operational, even in tough winter conditions. Contrary to popular belief, we didn’t encounter any problems related to range, charging availability or charging times. Heating the cab had no significant impact on range, largely thanks to the programmable pre-heating system offered by Renault Trucks, which optimises energy consumption. One of our customers in Finland even told us that, on a -30°C day last winter, the only truck in his fleet that started up was a Renault Trucks electric model. The diesel trucks were grounded because of the crystallisation of AdBlue. This provides further proof of the reliability of electric trucks in extreme cold."
