Södertälje, Sweden- Scania AB., a sustainable transport solution and a member of the TRATON Group, has officially announced the introduction of its Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for electric trucks. Set to be commercially available in early 2026, MCS represents a major leap forward in charging technology for heavy-duty electric transport, enabling significantly faster and more efficient charging operations.

The MCS technology, designed as a global standard for fast-charging electric trucks, is engineered to support a maximum current of 3,000 amperes. Scania’s initial rollout will offer up to 1,000 amperes, allowing trucks to charge from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes a duration that fits easily into standard rest or driver break times. This makes long-haul electric freight not only feasible but also economically viable.

With MCS, Scania’s trucks will be capable of charging at up to 750 kW, nearly twice as fast as the current CCS2 standard. This substantial upgrade requires advanced technologies such as liquid-cooled connectors and enhanced communication protocols, which ensure reliable, efficient, and safe charging.

In addition to improving charging speeds, MCS addresses the critical challenges of charging cost and downtime, both of which are significant barriers in the current electrification journey. TRATON Charging Solutions, the TRATON Group’s eMobility service provider, is working to deliver integrated solutions that reduce these costs and improve the user experience.

Scania’s electric trucks equipped with the new MCS technology will be available for order starting in early 2026. Parallel to this, Scania is supporting the development of a dedicated charging infrastructure, with MCS-compatible corridors set to be deployed across key European transport routes from 2025 onward.
