Friedrichshafen, Germany- ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division has secured a multi-year order from an Indian OEM for its next-generation AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle. The agreement covers the supply of several thousand units for deployment in the Indian domestic market as well as for global exports.

Since its debut at Busworld 2023, the AxTrax 2 LF has set new benchmarks in performance and energy efficiency for battery-electric city buses. Compared to its predecessor, the system delivers up to 20% energy savings, enabling operators to reduce battery size requirements and extend vehicle range. The fully integrated low-floor electric axle combines propulsion, braking, and suspension into a compact architecture, optimizing space for both batteries and passenger capacity.

Mr. Andreas Moser, Head of ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division and responsible for the India region, stated that the order underscores ZF’s position as a trusted partner in accelerating zero-emission mobility. He highlighted the sustained global demand for advanced solutions across all major commercial vehicle segments.

The AxTrax 2 LF is built on a modular platform that allows OEMs to streamline vehicle integration while meeting diverse operational requirements. Its integrated systems approach supports higher efficiency, simplified vehicle architecture, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO).

Technically, the axle features dual permanent magnet synchronous (PSM) hairpin motors, an 800V silicon carbide (SiC) inverter, and advanced oil cooling technology. Together, these components deliver up to 360 kW of continuous power and a peak torque of 36,800 Nm. The system enables up to 25% gradeability for a 30-ton articulated bus using a single driven axle, demonstrating its capability for demanding urban operations.

With this order, ZF strengthens its footprint in India’s fast-growing electric bus market while reinforcing its global leadership in zero-emission commercial vehicle driveline technologies.
