Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan- Isuzu Motors Limited., has expanded its medium-duty truck lineup with new models in the FORWARD series, which are now equipped with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 15 tons. These latest additions, part of the internationally recognized F-Series, feature the new 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine, the DB6A, developed in collaboration with Cummins, based in Indiana, USA.

In May 2019, Isuzu and Cummins established the Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership to advance the development of next-generation powertrains efficiently. This global collaboration focuses on the medium-duty diesel powertrain segment. The newly developed DB6A engine, a product of this partnership, is the first to be featured in the FORWARD medium-duty truck lineup. The introduction of these models, with their increased GVW capacity, completes the comprehensive overhaul of the FORWARD series that began in March of last year, addressing a wide range of customer needs.

DB6A engine delivers 220 kW (300 ps) and 1,081 N·m (110 kgf·m) of torque, and is notably lighter than traditional six-cylinder engines. The redesigned chassis frame integrates with overseas models, and the modified wheelbase optimizes weight distribution for better loading capacity. Exclusive bumper headlamps enhance the cab's dynamic design. Models with the DB6A engine will also feature Isuzu’s PREISM connected solution service for efficient vehicle operation.

The 2DG-FVZ26U4 model is a flatbed truck featuring an aluminum-block gate and a full cab. It is powered by the DB6A engine with a displacement of 6,690 cc and a Smoother-Fx 9-speed AMT transmission. With overall dimensions of 9,980 mm in length, 2,480 mm in width, and 2,880 mm in height, it offers a cargo bed with internal dimensions of 7,400 mm by 2,350 mm by 400 mm. The truck has a maximum loading capacity of 11,900 kg, a gross vehicle weight of 19,905 kg, and a minimum turning radius of 8.7 m. It seats 2 passengers.

Ms. Jennifer Rumsey, Chair and CEO of Cummins, said, “Our strong partnership is crucial to our ability to grow together and meet the needs of our customers by leveraging the strengths and scale of both companies. This is an important milestone for both Cummins and Isuzu as we enter the Japanese on-highway market for the first time in our 105-year history.”

Mr. Shinsuke Minami, President of Isuzu Motors, said, “I believe that various powertrain options will be needed to achieve a carbon-neutral society, given the many different circumstances around the world. For diesel engines as well, it is necessary to continuously introduce new products with low CO2 emissions that comply with higher emission regulations, and we believe that the DB6A engine will secure our place in the market as the most advanced diesel engine in terms of emission control technology.”
