Munich, Germany - BMW AG, manufacturer of luxury vehicles and motorcycles, has introduced the new fully electric BMW i3, expanding its iconic 3 Series lineup. The new launch combines the sporty appeal of the 3 Series with advanced electric technology, marking a key step in BMW’s electrification journey.
As the second model in BMW’s Neue Klasse lineup, the new BMW i3 50 xDrive marks a major technological step forward. It is the first all-electric BMW 3 Series and features dual electric motors on the front and rear axles, delivering 345 kW (469 hp) and 645 Nm of torque. Powered by sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the model also introduces the new BMW Panoramic iDrive, Heart of Joy, and BMW Symbiotic Drive for a more advanced driving and assisted driving experience. The BMW i3 also presents a modern take on the brand’s signature sedan design.
The new BMW i3 introduces BMW’s latest design language while remaining instantly recognisable as a 3 Series. It combines a confident and dynamic presence with classic BMW proportions, including a long wheelbase, a sleek roofline flowing toward the rear, short overhangs, and a sporty wide stance highlighted by flared wheel arches. At the front, the signature BMW kidney grille and twin headlights come together in a fresh light design, while the rear features strong horizontal tail-lamps that emphasise precision and modernity. Inside, the BMW i3 offers a spacious cabin tailored for electric mobility, while still maintaining the driver-focused sporty character that defines the 3 Series. The new BMW Panoramic iDrive further enhances this modern and intuitive interior experience.
True to the 3 Series legacy, the BMW i3 places sportiness and driving pleasure at its core, while taking full advantage of electric performance. It delivers highly precise, smooth, and confident handling, supported by the new Heart of Joy high-performance computer, which responds ten times faster than previous systems. Together with three additional high-performance computers, it forms the heart of BMW’s next-generation software and electronics architecture.
The BMW i3 is also designed for strong long-distance capability, offering a range of up to 900 km under the WLTP cycle. With DC fast-charging capacity of up to 400 kW, the car can add up to 400 km of range in just 10 minutes. This is made possible by sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which includes highly efficient motors, 800-volt architecture, and new high-voltage batteries with round cells and advanced cell-to-pack design. The model also supports bidirectional charging functions such as Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home, and Vehicle-to-Grid.
Production of the BMW i3 will take place at BMW Group Plant Munich, the company’s historic home facility. The plant has undergone major upgrades over the past four years, including a new body shop and advanced assembly area. Production of the new BMW i3 is set to begin there in August 2026, with first deliveries planned from autumn. From the following year, the Munich plant will transition to producing only fully electric Neue Klasse vehicles.
