Busworld Southeast Asia once again highlighted Jakarta’s growing importance as a major meeting point for the ASEAN bus and coach industry. The fourth edition of the event attracted strong international participation, bringing together 47 exhibitors from 9 countries and 5,133 registered visitors from 41 countries. The exhibition covered around 8,000 sqm and showcased 25 vehicles, reflecting the region’s growing interest in bus mobility, coach solutions, and public transport development. The next edition is planned for May 2028.

The show floor clearly reflected the rising focus on passenger comfort and travel experience in the Southeast Asian bus market. Premium seating designs, high-quality interiors, and sleeper coach concepts drew strong attention from visitors. In the long-distance travel segment, operators are increasingly offering different service classes, including regular seats and private sleeper cabins, similar to airline and railway travel models.

Although the Indonesian market remains cautious at present, the overall mood at the exhibition was positive. Exhibitors reported active visitor engagement, productive meetings, and strong interest from across the industry. In addition to sales discussions, many companies valued the event as a sourcing platform for components, parts, and technical solutions. Several exhibitors emphasized that Busworld Southeast Asia serves not only as a sales platform but also as an important sourcing event for the regional bus industry.

“Everyone was there,” participants said during the event. The exhibition welcomed leading Indonesian bodybuilders as well as operators from public transport, long-distance transport, and tourism sectors.

A group of Malaysian bus and coach operators also attended the show, accompanied by Masita Binti Mat Isa, Deputy Director General of Operations at APAD, Malaysia’s land public transport agency. Along with the international trade press, they visited TransJakarta, Busworld Southeast Asia’s partner and one of the world’s largest Bus Rapid Transit systems. Carrying more than one million passengers per day, TransJakarta plays a key role in modernizing and electrifying public transport in Jakarta and is increasingly seen as a benchmark project for Southeast Asia.

Indonesia continues to be a key hub for the Southeast Asian bus industry, supported by one of the region’s largest bus markets and a strong local bodybuilder ecosystem. Unlike Europe, the Indonesian market widely follows a chassis-bodybuilder model, where local bodybuilders play an important role in vehicle customization, finishing, and customer relationships. This has encouraged global companies to partner with local players to strengthen their presence in the market.

MAN Truck & Bus made its Busworld Southeast Asia debut with a focus on chassis solutions and collaboration with Indonesian bodybuilders through its local partner, PT Millennium Inframach Distribusi Indonesia. The company reported positive discussions with bodybuilders and secured a repeat order during the event, highlighting the market’s potential.

Electrification is also gradually gaining momentum in Indonesia. INVI introduced Higer buses, while SAG presented Golden Dragon, reflecting the growing presence of Chinese bus brands in the region. A major highlight was Laksana’s new electric coach for Persija Jakarta, built on a Hyundai Elec City chassis, marking the first fully electric official team bus for an Indonesian football club.

Several first-time exhibitors also received strong attention. Trijaya Union used the event as an international launch platform, showcasing new coach and microbus models for the tourism segment. Piala Mas also made its debut, presenting its latest Rexus generation and strengthening its visibility among leading Indonesian bodybuilders.

The conference program brought together more than 40 industry experts to discuss the future of bus mobility in Southeast Asia. Key topics included electrification, digitalization, safety, charging infrastructure, multimodal transport, long-distance mobility, and the export potential of ASEAN bodybuilders.

The event also recognized innovation, design, and passenger comfort through several awards. PT Adiputro Wirasejati won major honors, including “Bus of the Year” and “Best Coach Design,” while Piala Mas received awards for “The Most Favorite Bus” and “Most Eye-Catching Bus.” Other awards highlighted interior comfort, futuristic design, luxury coaches, and electric bus design, showing the growing importance of comfort, styling, and premium travel experiences in the Southeast Asian bus market.

Mr. Vincent Dewaele General Manager of Busworld International, said “You could feel the growth of Busworld Southeast Asia everywhere on the show floor. Exhibitors and visitors spontaneously told us this edition felt more international, more complete, and more dynamic, Indonesia and Busworld are both ready for the next phase. This edition confirmed the enormous potential of the region and the strong international interest in the Indonesian bus industry. Together with our partners, we have taken a crucial step forward and we are determined to continue expanding the event’s international reach in the years ahead.”
