IRVING, Texas – Caterpillar Inc., a construction machinery manufacturer, has introduced a new heavy-duty undercarriage configuration for the Cat 325 Excavator, delivering enhanced stability, improved performance on uneven terrain, and greater support for high-capacity work tools.
The long heavy-duty undercarriage features an oversized 203-mm (8-in) track pitch designed for harsh ground conditions commonly encountered in site preparation, land clearing and forestry applications. An optional blade further streamlines backfilling tasks and helps keep the machine steady when working on slopes.
Equipped with a 7.5-tonne (16,540-lb) counterweight, the new setup maintains excellent balance and control, even with add-ons such as a Variable Angle Boom (VAB), heavy-duty stick, thumbs, or quick couplers. The configuration is compatible with both Reach and VAB fronts, with or without a blade, and comes factory-ready with a thumb-ready stick and preinstalled quick coupler circuit—reducing the need for aftermarket upgrades.
Offering stability comparable to the 325 fitted with an 8.3-tonne (18,300-lb) counterweight and standard undercarriage, the machine’s larger final drives deliver higher drawbar pull for improved grade-climbing performance. Increased swing torque enhances uphill swing capability.
Mr. Adrian Grigorita, Vice President, Product Management for Medium Hydraulic Excavators at Caterpillar, said, “We are excited to launch the new 325 configuration. Designed with our customers in mind, it supports heavier work tool combinations while delivering enhanced stability. The extended undercarriage and dedicated counterweight provide a solid, balanced platform, while increased drawbar pull and swing torque improve performance on challenging terrain and slopes.”
When fitted with the HD configuration, the compact-radius Cat 325 delivers heavy-duty performance while maintaining exceptional versatility in tight spaces. Operators benefit from standard integrated technologies, including Cat Grade with 2D, Grade Assist, Lift Assist and Payload, allowing faster, more accurate and more efficient work.
Caterpillar has also extended maintenance intervals on the 325, cutting operating costs over the machine’s life. With no pilot or case drain filters, fewer replacements are required, and ground-level service points, including engine oil checks, support safer daily inspections.
