Metz-Woippy, France - CLAAS KGaA mbH., an agricultural machinery manufacturer, has expanded its baler production at its Metz-Woippy facility in France with the inauguration of two new assembly lines. This expansion, a year after opening a prototype workshop, supports production of the CEREX round baler and the award-winning CUBIX square baler, Gold Innovation Award winner at Agritechnica 2025.
The inauguration was attended by CLAAS executives, including Chairwoman Cathrina Claas-Mühlhäuser and COO Thomas Spiering, along with state and local authorities. “As a family business, balers have been part of our DNA for more than 100 years. Metz is our home for baler production, and France is one of CLAAS’ core markets. This investment reflects our commitment to the region and France as a whole,” said Claas-Mühlhäuser.
Balers are central to CLAAS’ business, built on a century of innovation including the knotter billhook, VARIANT round balers, ROLLATEX net wrapping, and QUADRANT square balers. Spiering noted that investments in R&D, infrastructure, and production at Metz-Woippy strengthen the technological foundation of the baler business.
The expansion modernizes final assembly, creating 1,800 m² of additional space, reconfiguring U-shaped assembly lines, expanding the square baler line, and adding ergonomic, soundproof test cabins. Heating, lighting, and assembly floors have been upgraded, logistics aisles widened, and manipulators installed, preparing the site for future automation. The project received support from France 2030.
The new lines will produce the CEREX 700 range, including the CEREX 780 and 760 variable chamber round balers, which offer higher throughput, dense bales, and low power use. Positioned above the VARIANT 500 series, these models are suitable for silage, straw, and hay, setting new benchmarks in the segment.
