Germany/USA- Detroit Diesel Corporation., a subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America powertrain brand, a manufacturer of heavy-duty truck engines and commercial vehicle components, has unveiled its next-generation heavy-duty engine lineup Gen 6 DD13, DD15, and DD16 engineered to meet the U.S. EPA’s 2027 emissions standards and slated for use across all heavy-duty Freightliner and Western Star trucks.

Mr. David Carson, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Daimler Truck North America, said, “Freightliner and Western Star customers rely on Detroit for dependable, efficient, and powerful performance. Gen 6 builds on years of proven capability to help customers prepare for 2027 and beyond.”

The Gen 6 portfolio evolves Detroit’s previous DD engine generation, retaining the durability and reliability fleets associate with the brand while incorporating updates aimed at improving efficiency helping offset the operational impacts that can come with stricter emissions requirements.

Detroit’s DD engine series debuted in 2007 as a clean-sheet platform created to support fleets through shifting regulations without sacrificing uptime, fuel efficiency, or performance. Since then, Detroit has introduced successive generations aligned with tighter emissions benchmarks Gen 2 (2010), Gen 3 (2013), Gen 4 (2016), and Gen 5 (2021). Across on-highway and vocational applications, Detroit reports more than 1.2 million heavy-duty engines sold to date.

Gen 6 is also the first major product launch under Daimler Truck’s latest heavy-duty diesel engine platform evolution (HDEP). The platform is designed to deliver global scale across brands and regions, with roughly 200,000 engines produced annually. Daimler Truck says the strategy supports long-term competitiveness while enabling a “right solution, right market, right time” approach as customer and regulatory needs continue to change.
