Digital daytime running light matrix gives end users the option of selecting their preferred digital light signature from up to eight preset designs.
Date: July 19, 2024Germany-Forvia Hella, an automotive supplier, has partnered with Audi, a German premium manufacturer, to create a groundbreaking headlamp design for the Q6 e-tron. This advanced design not only incorporates adaptive lighting functions such as glare-free high beams but also features a digital daytime running light matrix. This matrix enables users to select their desired digital light signature from a choice of up to eight preset designs, allowing for extensive personalization of the Matrix LED headlamps' appearance.
Mr. Yves Andres, Global lighting business at FORVIA HELLA as a member of the Management Board, Said, “Audi and FORVIA HELLA are breaking new ground with the headlight concept for the Q6 e-tron. LED lighting signatures have long been indispensable for the characteristic, emotional design language of vehicles. However, with the concept that we have brought into series production together with Audi for the Q6 e-tron, we are now opening up new degrees of freedom for end consumers to help shape the appearance of the vehicle front.”
The Forvia Hella has developed a headlamp concept for the Q6 e-tron's front lighting, organizing lighting elements into distinct areas that complement the vehicle's body design. The lower section is dedicated to practical illumination, featuring Matrix LED headlamps with 14 LEDs. These LEDs enable glare-free high beams, allowing continuous use of high beams without disturbing other drivers. In contrast, the upper element focuses on visibility and aesthetics, showcasing digital daytime running lights. These lights incorporate a matrix of 61 individually controllable segments, offering customizable digital light signatures that enhance the Audi Q6 e-tron's appearance.
The manufacturer has developed daytime running light designs that incorporate custom Coming Home/Leaving Home scenes. Users can choose these designs according to their preferences using a software-based app or the electric SUV's Multi Media Interface (MMI).
The matrix LED headlamps are produced in the Czech Republic, and a local version for the Chinese market is also manufactured in China. Series development takes place in Germany and the Czech Republic.
