Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Lauterach, Austria –Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG., an Austrian logistics company has added fourteen Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks to its fleet, marking a major step in its transition toward zero-emission freight transport.
Since the end of 2025, the electric trucks have been operating across daily general cargo services, scheduled line-haul routes and long-distance transport. The vehicles are currently deployed at Gebrüder Weiss locations in Vienna, Pöchlarn, Wels, Hall in Tyrol and the company’s headquarters in Lauterach.
The eActros 600 is being used for both regional distribution and more demanding long-distance operations, supported by Gebrüder Weiss’ own charging infrastructure. According to Daimler Truck Austria, the model demonstrates that electric trucks are now suitable not only for urban and regional delivery, but also for national and international haulage.
Gebrüder Weiss says its long-term sustainability strategy has driven early investment in heavy-duty electric transport. The company has worked with Daimler Truck in the conventional truck segment for around ten years and selected the eActros 600 due to its range, efficiency, safety and access to Daimler Truck’s Europe-wide service network.
A major part of the company’s electrification plan is its in-house energy and charging network. With public truck charging infrastructure still limited in many areas, Gebrüder Weiss has developed its own charging systems at several sites in Austria and southern Germany. Electricity is supplied either through company-owned photovoltaic systems or certified renewable power.
At the Vorarlberg site in Austria, the electric trucks operate in both day and night shifts. They are used for regional transport within Vorarlberg, routes to Switzerland and Germany, and scheduled line-haul services to destinations such as Hall in Tyrol and Freiburg im Breisgau.
The company says electric truck operations require stronger planning, efficient load management and dispatching systems that include charging times. At the same time, it notes that infrastructure and regulatory support still need further development.
Gebrüder Weiss plans to expand its charging infrastructure across more locations. By the end of 2026, the company aims to increase its Austrian electric truck fleet to 25 Mercedes-Benz eActros vehicles.
