Gothenburg, Sweden- Volvo Buses, a provider of sustainable passenger transport solutions, has supported Goiânia, Brazil, in launching electric bi-articulated buses in regular passenger service, strengthening the city’s push for cleaner, high-capacity public transport. The rollout includes 16 articulated and five bi-articulated electric buses built on the Volvo Buses BZRT chassis with Marcopolo bodies, along with the inauguration of the Eletroposto Oeste charging hub.

The project also marked the inauguration of the Eletroposto Oeste charging hub at the METROBUS S.A. depot. The facility is designed for large-scale electrification, featuring 23 chargers rated at 240 kW and the capacity to serve up to 46 buses simultaneously, supporting reliable operations for high-capacity electric BRT systems.

Mr. André Marques, Vice President of Volvo Buses in Latin America, said the deployment highlights what strong partnerships and a shared commitment to sustainable mobility can achieve. Volvo noted that Goiânia’s transition builds on its earlier milestones, from introducing bi-articulated buses in 2005 to now operating a fully electric fleet.

The initiative was developed with partners including HP Mobilidade, GreenMob Capital, Suécia Veículos, Volvo Financial Services, and the Volvo Buses team. The new buses feature twin 200 kW motors delivering 400 kW total output, bi-articulated battery capacity up to 720 kWh, camera-based visibility and blind-spot monitoring systems, and passenger capacities of up to 250 (28 m bi-articulated) and 180 (21 m articulated), with Marcopolo Attivi bodies on both models.
