Chicago, Illinois - Komatsu North America., a construction equipment manufacturer, and Pronto., have announced a strategic collaboration to bring autonomous haulage technology to quarry operations across the region. The initiative introduces Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, powered by Pronto, which integrates Pronto’s self-driving platform with Komatsu’s Smart Quarry suite of fleet management and analytics tools.
The system is designed for quarry-sized haul trucks and offers operators the ability to retrofit existing Komatsu vehicles or purchase new trucks pre-equipped with Pronto’s autonomous solution. Capable of 24/7 operation with minimal human intervention, the technology aims to boost productivity, improve fuel efficiency, and enhance safety by removing drivers from hazardous environments.
Mr. Jason Anetsberger, Senior Director of Customer Solutions at Komatsu, said, “This collaboration with Pronto accelerates our vision of smart, automated quarry operations. After decades of experience with autonomous haulage in large-scale mining, we’re now extending those benefits to quarries of all sizes.”
Mr. Anthony Levandowski CEO of Pronto, said, “Previously, the most advanced autonomy was limited to the largest mines. By combining Komatsu’s trusted hardware and support network with our scalable autonomy platform, we’re making next-generation safety and productivity accessible to every quarry.”
The solution leverages AI and rugged sensors to navigate haul roads, providing consistent cycle times and operational insights through Komatsu’s Smart Quarry platform. Together, the companies say the system represents a step-change in quarry operations, offering a cost-effective and scalable pathway to autonomy.
