Tokyo, Japan - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, a famous Japanese car company that makes cars, has announced plans to introduce the all-new ASX VR-e battery-electric vehicle in Australia and New Zealand in 2026. The model will be supplied under an OEM arrangement by Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a subsidiary of Foxconn’s Hon Hai Precision Industry.
The all-new Mitsubishi ASX VR-e will enter the small SUV segment in Australia and New Zealand, targeting growing demand for battery-electric vehicles, particularly in urban markets. The model is designed to combine advanced technology, engaging driving performance, distinctive styling and improved environmental efficiency.
The ASX name continues the legacy of Mitsubishi’s Active Sports Crossover, while the VR-e designation draws inspiration from the high-performance Galant VR-4. The “VR” reflects the model’s sporty character, while “e” represents electrification and advanced technology. Mitsubishi engineers have extensively tested the vehicle on Australian and New Zealand roads, with dedicated suspension tuning aimed at delivering responsive handling, strong road holding and a more engaging driving experience.
Aerodynamics also play a key role in the vehicle’s design. The ASX VR-e features an S-duct that directs airflow from the front bumper across the hood, along with active grille shutters that help reduce drag depending on driving conditions. Horizontal design elements across the lighting, C-pillars and wheels further reinforce its modern and cohesive appearance.
As part of its long-term strategy, Mitsubishi Motors is strengthening its SUV and ASEAN-focused product portfolio while accelerating electrification. The company is using partnerships for EV development while continuing to focus on its own HEV and PHEV technologies, with the aim of combining lower environmental impact with the driving characteristics associated with the Mitsubishi brand.
