Winnipeg, Canada- NFI Group Inc., a provider of propulsion-agnostic bus and coach solutions, announced that its subsidiary New Flyer Industries Canada ULC has received a significant order from OC Transpo, the public transit agency serving Ottawa and surrounding areas.
The order includes 124 Units of Xcelsior CHARGE NG 40-foot battery-electric buses, further strengthening OC Transpo’s efforts toward fleet electrification and sustainable transportation. This order is part of an option from New Flyer’s 2023 contract with the Toronto Transit Commission and was recorded in New Flyer’s Q1 2025 backlog.
Mr. Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI, said, “With more than 1,100 New Flyer buses delivered to OC Transpo over the past 35 years, we’re proud to continue supporting public transit in Canada’s capital with our latest electric technology. This latest order underscores our ability to meet delivery expectations and bring these new vehicles into service by 2026.”
This new commitment builds on OC Transpo’s previous purchase of 51 Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses in late 2023, bringing the total number of New Flyer electric buses ordered by the agency to 175 units. The acquisition is being supported by a mix of local funding and federal investment, including support from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s Zero Emission Transit Fund (ZETF).
OC Transpo, together with its bus and O-Train networks, serves as a vital link for communities throughout Ottawa, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec. This latest order represents a major step in providing cleaner, quieter, and more efficient transit solutions for the National Capital Region.
