Saint-Priest, France- Renault Trucks., is upgrading the powertrain of its T, T High, C and K ranges with the introduction of a new DE13 R engine and a new generation of Optidriver gearboxes.

The latest powertrain development is designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance driving comfort. Compared with the previous generation, the new system can lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 4%. It is also compatible with HVO and B100 renewable fuels, supporting operators in reducing their environmental impact.

The new powertrain combines the DE13 R engine, upgraded Optidriver transmission and advanced predictive driving technologies. It has been developed to help transport operators respond to rising operating costs and growing pressure to decarbonise road transport.

Antoine Duclaux, President of Renault Trucks, said the decarbonisation of road transport depends on several complementary solutions. Alongside the expansion of Renault Trucks’ electric vehicle offering, the company continues to improve the efficiency of its combustion-engine vehicles to help customers reduce fuel use, CO₂ emissions and total cost of ownership.

The DE13 R engine is available in versions up to 540 hp with 2,800 Nm of torque. It uses advanced materials such as high-strength grey iron and compacted graphite iron to improve robustness and durability. The engine also features technical upgrades that optimise combustion and reduce energy loss, including cylinder pressure of up to 250 bar and a new fuel supply system with an external high-pressure fuel pump for improved injection precision.

As standard, the DE13 R is equipped with Optibrake+, a more powerful engine braking system that improves vehicle control and driving comfort, especially on hilly terrain.

The engine is paired with a new generation of Optidriver gearboxes, featuring updated software and optimised gear-shift strategies. Gear changes are up to 20% faster than the previous generation, improving smoothness and drivability.

The new powertrain also uses fuel-saving technologies such as Optivision+ predictive cruise control, which uses topographical data and road signs to adjust gear shifting, acceleration and speed according to road conditions. It also includes Predictive Engine Stop Start, which can automatically shut down the engine during freewheeling phases while keeping essential functions active and restarting the engine instantly when required.

Aerodynamic improvements further support fuel savings by improving air flow around the vehicle. Depending on usage, the latest generation of Renault Trucks vehicles can achieve up to 4% savings in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

For operators seeking maximum efficiency, Renault Trucks also offers the Smart Racer2 version, which combines improved aerodynamics, Optivision+, low rolling resistance tyres and advanced predictive powertrain control.

The DE13 R engine also complies with the NNR3 noise emissions standard, helping reduce vehicle sound levels.

In addition to efficiency gains, the upgraded range improves driver comfort and life on board. The DE13 R delivers strong responsiveness and high torque output, while smoother gear changes contribute to a quieter and more comfortable driving experience.

The trucks also include Smart Steering, which improves directional stability and supports Driver Assist functions such as lane keeping and automatic following-distance adjustment.

With its 2027 model year updates, Renault Trucks continues to enhance its long-haul and construction vehicle ranges, supporting both driver wellbeing and transport operators’ operational efficiency.
