Quebec, Canada – Sandvik AB., a mining company, has secured a major order to supply battery-electric mining equipment to Eldorado Gold’s Lamaque mine at Quebec, Canada, strengthening the mine’s transition toward more sustainable underground operations.
The order comprises 10 battery-electric vehicles, including trucks and loaders, and follows another sizeable BEV order placed by Eldorado Gold in the third quarter. Deliveries of the new equipment are scheduled to begin in mid-2026 and continue through 2027. Once the latest units are commissioned, Sandvik’s battery-electric fleet operating at the Lamaque mine will expand from two to 12 machines.
The expanded BEV deployment underscores Eldorado Gold’s focus on improving operational efficiency, enhancing underground safety, and reducing environmental impact.
Mr. Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining, said, “Sandvik BEVs have demonstrated strong performance underground at Lamaque, and this order reinforces the robustness of our battery-electric portfolio. We are pleased to deepen our collaboration with Eldorado Gold and support their commitment to safer, more efficient, and more sustainable mining operations.”
The adoption of battery-electric vehicles at Lamaque also reflects a broader industry trend toward decarbonization and cleaner mining practices. By replacing diesel-powered equipment with BEVs, Eldorado Gold aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality underground, and lower overall energy and ventilation costs—demonstrating how technology can drive both environmental and operational benefits in modern mining.
