Bengaluru - Sonalika Tractors., a brand of International Tractors Limited (ITL), has unveiled its new CNG-powered tractor for the domestic market. The tractor was showcased at the Excon 2025, highlighting the company’s growing focus on clean-energy solutions for Indian farmers.
The launch reflects Sonalika’s effort to address one of the biggest concerns for farmers—rising operational costs—by offering an alternative fuel solution that reduces dependence on diesel. The new CNG tractor is designed to align closely with national initiatives such as SATAT and GobarDHAN, which promote compressed and bio-compressed natural gas as sustainable energy sources for rural India.
Powered by a dedicated CNG/CBG engine operating at a rated speed of 2,000 rpm, the Sonalika CNG tractor is engineered to deliver strong performance while maintaining high fuel efficiency. The company claims the tractor combines its trademark pulling power with significantly lower running costs, making it especially suitable for transport and haulage applications.
The tractor features a 12 forward and three reverse constant mesh transmission with a side-shift gear system, aimed at ensuring smooth gear changes and improved operator comfort during long working hours. Large 14.9 x 28 rear tyres enhance grip and stability, particularly during heavy-duty haulage and trolley operations.
To support extended work cycles, Sonalika has equipped the tractor with a dual-cylinder fuel system offering a total CNG capacity of 40 kg, split between 14 kg and 27 kg cylinders. This configuration is intended to reduce refuelling frequency and improve productivity, especially for farmers engaged in long-distance transport.
With this unveiling, Sonalika has reinforced its commitment to future-ready tractors that support India’s transition toward renewable and low-carbon energy in agriculture. As CNG and CBG infrastructure continues to expand across rural regions, the company expects its CNG tractor to play a key role in shaping the next phase of sustainable farming and transport operations in the country.
