Kagawa, Japan - Tadano Ltd., a construction equipment manufacturer, has introduced the new AC 5.250L-2 all-terrain crane, featuring a 259.2-foot main boom. This five-axle crane delivers impressive reach while maintaining a compact design, making it ideal for urban jobsites.

The AC 5.250L-2 powered by a 530-hp Mercedes-Benz engine with 1,917 lb-ft of torque. Eco Mode optimizes power use, while hill start-assist improves maneuverability on inclines. With a 10x6 drive, it meets a 26,500-lb axle load limit on 16-inch steel wheels, while the 10x8 drive complies with a 36,400-lb limit. Both setups allow extra gear transport within limits. An optional heavy-lift attachment enables lifting up to 305,780 lbs with a short boom and additional sheaves.

The new crane features a maximum main boom extension of 98.4 feet, with all extensions from 19 to 98.4 feet being self-erecting. Its maximum system length of 357.6 feet enables it to lift loads over obstacles, reach tall buildings with ease, and assist in assembling large tower cranes.

Mr. Peter Kleinhans, Project manager at Tadano, said, “Our AC 5.250L-2 is also top of the class when it comes to load moment, which at up to 736 metric tons is one of the best on the market. This high load moment is achieved with a working radius of 23 feet, a 44.3-foot-long main boom and a load weight of 231,920 pounds.”

The AC 5.250L-2 lifts its full 176,400-pound counterweight in three stages, with a max 109,300-pound pick at 22.3 feet. Weights can be split, with the 12,150-pound base plate liftable from 75.5 feet. No piece exceeds 22,050 pounds, enabling transport by smaller trucks.

The IC-1 Plus control system calculates real-time load capacity based on boom position and slewing angle, maximizing lifting power, especially over outriggers. Outriggers extend asymmetrically in five positions (0–100%). The system also features a fuel-saving start/stop function that shuts off the engine without disabling controls.
