Toyota City, Japan - Toyota Motor Corporation, an automotive manufacturer, has appointed a new chief executive, naming Operating Officer Kon Kenta as president and CEO effective April 1. The announcement, made Friday, is part of a broader overhaul of the company’s executive structure.
Current CEO Sato Koji will transition to vice chairman and assume the newly created position of chief industry officer. Sato took over the top job three years ago from Chairman Toyoda Akio.
The company says the change in roles is "intended to accelerate management decision-making in response to changes in the internal and external environment."
Mr. Kon Kenta, New President and CEO, Toyota Motor Corporation, said “While Toyota often relies on proven methods and past formulas when pursuing new initiatives, those approaches remain crucial for strengthening its existing business but truly new challenges require a different way of thinking and execution.”
Toyota reported record group sales for April–December, driven by solid momentum in Japan and North America. Revenue rose 6.8% to 38.08 trillion yen, while operating profit slipped 13.1% to 3.19 trillion yen. The company cited a 1.2 trillion yen tariff impact, and net income fell 26.1% to 3.03 trillion yen.
