Mumbai- UltraTech Cement Limited., a cement company by sales volume and capacity outside China, has commenced the deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM). The new fleet will transport clinker from its Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to the company's grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works in the Delhi-NCR region.
The trucks will operate over a 250-kilometre route spanning Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, further strengthening UltraTech's growing green logistics network, which now comprises more than 750 environmentally friendly trucks.
The deployment follows a transport service agreement signed between UltraTech, Energy In Motion, and a logistics service provider. It represents one of the largest electric heavy-duty truck deployments in the cement sector in northern India and marks a significant milestone in demonstrating the commercial viability of long-haul electric freight transportation in the country.
The fleet consists of 45 electric trucks, each with a payload capacity of 55 tonnes. The initiative is expected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually and eliminate the consumption of approximately 2.9 million litres of diesel per year. The project aligns with India's broader objectives of promoting zero-emission commercial transportation and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.
Mr. K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement Limited, said, "India's ambition for clean and energy-secure transportation requires decisive industry action, and UltraTech is committed to leading this transition. Decarbonising logistics is as strategically important as decarbonising production. By shifting long-haul clinker transportation to electric trucks, we are building a resilient, responsible, and future-ready supply chain while supporting the country's clean energy objectives."
