Vaderstad, Sweden – Vaderstad AB., an agricultural machinery company, has unveiled a new front tool option for its Carrier XT 425–625 and Carrier XL 425–725 disc cultivators, enhancing their capabilities for ultra-shallow tillage and mechanical weed control.
The innovation features a third disc axle configuration, increasing the number of discs from two rows to three and reducing disc spacing to just 8.3 cm. This results in 50% more working tools in the soil, ensuring more intensive mixing, crumbling, and residue management.
Mr. Andy Gamble, Managing Director, Vaderstad UK, said, “With three rows of CrossCutter Discs, we’re significantly improving cultivation performance and expanding the versatility of shallow tillage systems. The setup offers high weed-killing efficiency, better soil moisture preservation, and reduced fuel consumption—benefiting both conventional and organic farming operations. The third disc axle delivers higher intensity and better soil mixing, promoting stronger emergence of weeds and volunteer seeds for more effective mechanical control.”
Field trials have demonstrated that the new front tool helps create a stronger stale seedbed, stimulates weed germination, and enhances weed knockdown efficiency in subsequent passes. According to Gamble, this supports sustainable farming practices by reducing reliance on chemical herbicides like glyphosate.
The system is compatible with standard Carrier disc arms and can be equipped with a variety of disc options, including the CrossCutter Disc, CrossCutter Disc Aggressive, 450 mm disc, and 470 TrueCut discs—increasing operational flexibility across different soil conditions.
