Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen, an automobile manufacturer and one of the world's largest carmakers, has introduced the new ID. Polo, a compact electric hatchback designed to make electric mobility more accessible for everyday buyers. Positioned as the electric successor to the well-known Polo, the new model reflects Volkswagen’s strategy to bring battery-electric vehicles into the mainstream small-car segment.
The ID. Polo is based on Volkswagen’s MEB+ electric platform and is aimed at urban drivers, young families, commuters and cost-conscious customers looking for a practical electric vehicle. Pre-sales in Europe are expected to begin from the end of April 2026.
One of the key highlights of the ID. Polo is its affordable positioning. With a starting price of EUR 24,995 in Germany, Volkswagen is targeting buyers who may have previously found electric vehicles too expensive. The model supports the company’s broader message of “Electric for Everyone.”
The ID. Polo will be available with two battery options. The 37 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of up to 329 km, while the larger 52 kWh battery provides up to 454 km on a single charge. These range options make the car suitable for both daily city driving and longer weekend journeys.
Charging has also been designed for everyday convenience. DC fast charging will be standard across all variants, with the 37 kWh version supporting up to 90 kW and the 52 kWh version supporting up to 105 kW. Charging from 10% to 80% is expected to take around 23 to 24 minutes, helping reduce waiting time during public charging stops.
Despite being a compact hatchback, the ID. Polo offers strong practicality. It measures 4,053 mm in length and comes with a 441-litre luggage compartment, which can be expanded to 1,243 litres when the rear seats are folded. This makes it suitable for everyday shopping, family use, commuting and short trips.
Inside, Volkswagen has focused on combining digital technology with simple usability. The cabin includes a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10-inch digital cockpit, voice control, App-Connect and physical buttons for key functions. This balance of modern digital features and practical controls is expected to improve the user experience.
The ID. Polo will also include features such as one-pedal driving, optional Connected Travel Assist, automatic traffic light recognition and Vehicle-to-Load capability of up to 3.6 kW. Vehicle-to-Load allows the car to supply power to external devices, adding more flexibility for outdoor use or emergency situations.
Volkswagen has also added a sustainability focus to the model. Interior materials include textiles made from 100% recycled PET, while higher versions use SEAQUAL® yarn made from recycled marine plastic. This supports the brand’s focus on reducing environmental impact beyond the electric drivetrain itself.
The new ID. Polo is expected to play an important role in Volkswagen’s affordable EV strategy. By combining a lower entry price, practical range, fast charging, compact dimensions and familiar Volkswagen design, the model is positioned to attract a wider group of customers into electric mobility.
With the ID. Polo, Volkswagen is not only expanding its electric vehicle line-up but also strengthening its presence in the growing compact EV segment. Its success will depend on customer response to pricing, public charging access and the continued shift from petrol and diesel small cars to electric alternatives
