Changwon, South Korea – Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE)., a construction equipment manufacturer, is embracing diversity and inclusion at its Changwon facility, the company’s largest excavator manufacturing plant and home to a cutting-edge R&D center that produces around 55% of Volvo CE’s global excavator output.

Located west of Busan, Changwon is one of Korea’s most international cities, with a large foreign community attracted by its climate, industrial base, and vibrant cultural life. Volvo CE is reflecting this environment within its workforce by fostering diversity across nationality, gender, and age.

Dimitri Milosevic, Global Procurement Lead, was the first foreign employee recruited in Changwon under Volvo CE’s Global Hiring program. While acknowledging the challenges of language and cultural differences, he praised the company’s investment in Korean language training and its inclusive culture.

Through the Volvo Group Korea Gender Diversity program, Minhee Ju joined as a Production Operator, emphasizing how women are increasingly breaking barriers in the male-dominated construction industry.

Beyond the workplace, employees point to Changwon’s quality of life. Supplier Development Engineer Jeongeun Choi praised the city’s outdoor lifestyle, from surfing and jogging to enjoying peaceful spots like Yongji Lake. Meanwhile, Site Buyer Minju Kim highlighted Jinhae, a family-friendly district known for its port and natural surroundings, where camping and hiking are popular summer activities.

With a growing emphasis on inclusivity, flexible working, and employee well-being, Volvo CE Changwon is positioning itself not just as a global manufacturing hub but also as a model workplace for diversity and collaboration.
