Eskilstuna, Sweden - Volvo Construction Equipment., a construction equipment manufacturer, and Hitachi Energy., have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on solutions that support the deployment of zero-emission construction sites.
The agreement brings together Volvo CE’s electric construction equipment expertise with Hitachi Energy’s capabilities in clean power supply, energy management and system integration. The collaboration aims to make electric construction machinery more practical for real jobsite operations by addressing charging infrastructure, power availability, energy control and operational execution as one connected system.
The partnership responds to growing pressure on the construction sector to reduce emissions while improving productivity. As customers, investors and regulators place greater focus on environmental performance, construction companies are looking beyond individual electric machines toward complete, ready-to-deploy site solutions.
Under the non-exclusive agreement, the two companies will assess technical and commercial concepts for zero-emission construction and manufacturing operations. Their work will include business models, go-to-market strategies, aftermarket support and site-level integration, supported by joint teams from both organizations.
Mr. Niklas Persson, CEO of Grid Integration at Hitachi Energy, said, “Electrification is a key part of decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as construction, where success depends on system-level integration and close collaboration.”
By combining electric machines, electrical infrastructure and energy management capabilities, Volvo CE and Hitachi Energy aim to support the construction industry’s transition from standalone technologies to fully integrated zero-emission jobsite solutions.
