Ohio, United States - Workhorse Group Inc., a manufacturer of all-electric commercial vehicles, and Kingsburg Truck Center have announced a purchase order for 100 W56 fully electric step vans from Gateway Fleets, a California-based provider of bundled electric vehicle and charging solutions for commercial delivery fleets.
Gateway Fleets plans to deploy the W56 vans across its electrified depot network, including existing sites in Southern California, while preparing to launch additional locations in the coming months. Its bundled fleet model combines electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, depot access, fleet support, and flexible financing to help operators transition to zero-emission delivery vehicles with lower upfront costs.
The W56 step vans ordered are the Standard Wheelbase 178-inch models, equipped with a 210 kWh battery. The vans offer 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space, a 10,000 lb payload capacity, and a nominal driving range of 150 miles per charge. The vehicles are designed for high-cycle last-mile delivery operations and feature a purpose-built composite body and ergonomic driver-focused cabin.
Mr. Scott Griffith, Chief Executive Officer of Workhorse, said Gateway Fleets’ model helps solve key challenges faced by fleet operators by combining electric trucks with charging and operational support. He added that electrification can reduce operating costs and offer protection from volatile fossil fuel prices.
Gateway Fleets reported fuel cost savings of up to 65 percent on active delivery routes, based on a year-long real-world case study at its Riverside, California site.
The W56 vans will be produced at Workhorse’s manufacturing facility in Union City, Indiana, which has the capacity to build more than 5,000 vehicles annually on a single operating shift. Workhorse has already delivered more than 1,100 vehicles, which have collectively covered over 20 million real-world miles.
Vehicle deployment is expected to begin in July 2026, ahead of the peak holiday delivery season. Kingsburg Truck Center said the order reflects growing confidence in the W56 platform and the role of partnerships in helping fleets scale electric vehicle adoption efficiently.
