Date: July 23, 2024Washington D.C, United States- Volvo Trucks NA., has announced the availability of an engine that meets California Air Resources Board (CARB) 2024, Omnibus regulation requirements. This regulation demands a 75% reduction in NOx emissions and a 50% reduction in particulate matter (PM) for heavy-duty on-road engines for model years 2024-2026, compared to current EPA standards.

Volvo Trucks has introduced a CARB 24-compliant engine featuring an advanced emission control system with a serviceable linear exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS). Components like the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Aftertreatment Heater, and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) can be individually serviced or replaced. The engine also includes a 48-volt alternator powering a battery for the heater during startup and low-load situations.
Available now in VNR and current VNL models with 455 HP and 1650 lb.ft. of torque, fleet operators can learn more or place orders at their nearest Volvo Trucks dealership. California customers must complete a CARB Certification Form before ordering.
The Clean Truck Partnership agreement between CARB and truck manufacturers, starting in 2027, NOx emissions standards will align with federal standards in all 50 states.
