Larbert, United Kingdom- Alexander Dennis Limited., a manufacturer of double-deck buses and a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has received a firm order for 41 units of Enviro500 double-decker buses from BC Transit in British Columbia, Canada. The order was added to NFI’s firm backlog in the first quarter of 2026.

BC Transit is a provincial Crown corporation responsible for delivering public transportation services across British Columbia, excluding the Greater Vancouver area. The agency serves more than 1.9 million people across 130 communities and carries over 54 million passengers annually.

The newly ordered Enviro500 buses will replace older vehicles that have reached the end of their service life. They will also support BC Transit’s continued use of double-decker buses as part of its fleet strategy.

Each Enviro500 bus can seat up to 80 passengers, offering high passenger capacity while maintaining a compact road footprint. This makes the model well-suited for routes that require increased capacity without adding more vehicles to the road.

BC Transit has a long history with double-decker buses. In 2000, it became the first public transit service in North America to introduce double-decker buses. Since then, the agency has continued to invest in the format. Its Victoria fleet currently includes around 50 Alexander Dennis double-decker buses, with more buses expected to enter service during the year.

Mr. Talha Wasif, General Manager, North America, Alexander Dennis, said, “NFI and BC Transit have worked in partnership for more than 40 years with a shared commitment to ensuring comfortable, safe, and efficient transit for commuters in British Columbia. We are excited to work with BC Transit once again by providing Alexander Dennis’ Enviro500 double-decker buses that are renowned for exemplary passenger capacity.”

Mr. Erinn Pinkerton, President and Chief Executive Officer for BC Transit. “Double-decker buses have been a defining symbol in our capital city since the year 2000, with Victoria becoming the first place in North America to operate double-decker buses for public transit. The original 10 buses were Dennis Trident models manufactured by Alexander Dennis. BC Transit is proud that, a quarter of a century later, we continue to purchase double-decker buses from Alexander Dennis—a testament to the strong relationship between us.”

The order strengthens Alexander Dennis’s North American order book and highlights continued demand for its Enviro500 platform. For BC Transit, the new buses will support fleet renewal, improve passenger capacity, and help maintain reliable public transport services across British Columbia.
