Indiana, USA- Allison Transmission Holdings, Inc. has announced a major expansion of its long-standing partnership with Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), introducing two new fully automatic transmission options for the Freightliner M2 106 Plus medium-duty truck.
Under the expanded collaboration, the Allison 3414 Regional Haul Series™ (RHS) transmission will be paired with the Cummins X10 diesel engine, with production scheduled to begin in January 2027. In addition, the Allison 9-Speed transmission will be offered with the Cummins B6.7 Octane gasoline engine, with production set to start in July 2026.
Mr. Aaron Scates, Vice President of Vocational and Medium Duty Market Development at DTNA, the new transmission and engine pairings are designed to broaden the Freightliner M2 106 Plus powertrain lineup and give customers more flexibility based on their operating requirements. He noted that the Allison 3414 RHS with the Cummins X10 provides a lighter automatic option for medium-duty tractor applications, while the Allison 9-Speed paired with the Cummins B6.7 Octane offers smooth and predictable shifting for customers selecting a gasoline-powered configuration.
The Allison 3414 RHS and Cummins X10 combination is engineered to deliver strong performance and improved efficiency in medium-duty tractor applications. Allison says the transmission is designed to improve handling and maneuverability, while also delivering 25% faster acceleration compared with competing automated manual transmissions (AMTs). Its torque capacity and optimized gear ratios make it suitable for a wide range of demanding duty cycles and operating conditions.
Meanwhile, the Allison 9-Speed transmission matched with the Cummins B6.7 Octane engine is intended to help fleets meet evolving efficiency requirements while balancing torque delivery with fuel-saving performance in commercial truck applications.
Mr. Rohan Barua, Vice President of North America Sales, Global Channel and Aftermarket at Allison Transmission, said the broader partnership with DTNA reflects both companies’ shared focus on delivering powertrain solutions that meet customer needs. He added that integrating the 3414 RHS and 9-Speed transmissions into the Freightliner M2 106 Plus platform brings purpose-built technology aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and long-term value for fleets.
