Lucknow- Ashok Leyland Limited., of the Hinduja Group a commercial vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated its newest integrated commercial vehicle manufacturing plant in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in its green mobility journey.
The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Yogi Adityanath, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, and H. D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. The ceremony was attended by senior ministers from the Uttar Pradesh government, international diplomats, leading industrialists, Ashok Leyland’s global dealers and suppliers, and senior leadership from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland.
Located at Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport, the facility spans over 70 acres and is Ashok Leyland’s most advanced and sustainable manufacturing plant globally. The plant is primarily focused on the production of electric commercial vehicles, with an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles. A majority of the workforce has been recruited locally from Uttar Pradesh, with a strong representation of women employees.
Mr. Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, said the new plant represents an important new chapter for the company in Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted the Group’s commitment to driving economic growth, creating employment, and supporting sustainable mobility, while advancing Ashok Leyland’s Net Zero emissions goals.
Mr. Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Ashok Leyland, noted that Uttar Pradesh’s strong focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility made it a natural partner for the company’s green mobility ambitions. He added that the highly automated facility, with a strong emphasis on electric buses, will play a critical role in building a cleaner and future-ready mobility ecosystem for India.
Designed as a green manufacturing facility, the Lucknow plant features rooftop solar power generation, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated in-plant logistics, positive water balance initiatives, and a zero-discharge system. Beyond manufacturing, the facility is expected to serve as a hub for skill development and employment generation for the local workforce.
With Uttar Pradesh emerging as a key hub for electric vehicle adoption, the new Lucknow plant reinforces Ashok Leyland’s long-term commitment to sustainable transportation and positions the company as a key enabler in shaping a cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready mobility ecosystem for both the state and the country.
