Delhi- Bajaj Auto Ltd., a two- and three-wheeler manufacturer, has officially entered the e-rickshaw segment with the launch of the all-new Bajaj Riki. Building on decades of leadership in the three-wheeler ecosystem, the company is extending its trusted driver partnership “Bharose ki Bhagedaari” into India’s rapidly expanding electric rickshaw market.
The e-rickshaw category has grown significantly post-Covid, adding more than 45,000 vehicles every month as demand for affordable last-mile mobility surges. These vehicles form the backbone of last-mile connectivity, feeding metro stations, suburban rail networks and city bus systems. As a result, reliability and safety are crucial for both drivers and passengers. Yet despite the market’s size, most existing offerings remain unorganised and face persistent issues such as low real-world range, weak durability due to corrosion and lead-acid battery leakage, harsh braking from non-hydraulic systems, instability from poor chassis proportions, and a limited service network. These shortcomings reduce driver earnings and affect the passenger experience.
Bajaj Riki has been engineered to solve these long-standing challenges. Backed by insights from drivers and extensive testing, Riki combines robust engineering with Bajaj Auto’s wide service infrastructure to deliver higher uptime, lower maintenance, safer rides and enhanced comfort — perfectly suited for India’s demanding, high-traffic feeder routes. After successful pilot runs in Patna, Moradabad, Guwahati and Raipur, Riki will now be available in over 100 towns across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam in Phase 1.
Designed for India’s toughest conditions, Riki introduces several first-in-segment features. It offers the longest range in its class at 149 km (P4005), a strong monocoque chassis for improved life and stability, independent suspension to enhance comfort and reduce toppling risk, and hydraulic brakes for confident braking in dense urban traffic. The vehicle supports fast charging, reaching full charge in just 4.5 hours, and is backed by a 3-year battery warranty and Bajaj’s nationwide support network.
The first model in the new P40 series, the Bajaj Riki P4005 where “P” denotes Passenger is equipped with a 5.4 kWh battery. Bajaj has also unveiled the Cargo variant, Riki C4005, which offers the highest certified range in its category at 164 km. With a larger cargo tray and superior gradeability of 28%, it allows drivers to earn more while ensuring a smoother ride on slopes and flyovers.
With Bajaj Riki, Bajaj Auto aims to transform the e-rickshaw space by delivering reliability, durability and the service ecosystem that the category has long lacked — offering drivers a partner they can truly trust.
Mr. Samardeep Subandh, President, Intra-City Business Unit, Bajaj Auto Ltd said, “Riki brings Bajaj Auto’s trusted 3W engineering and dependability into the electric rickshaw segment at a time when drivers and passengers need dependable solutions. We’ve brought the best for the industry, the longest range, a monocoque chassis, independent suspension and hydraulic brakes. Riki is engineered to increase driver earnings, enhance passenger safety and comfort, and deliver the reliability India’s lastmile ecosystem has waited for.”
