Hoofddorp, Netherlands – BYD, a manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has secured a new order from Flemish public transport operator De Lijn for 268 BYD B12.b battery-electric buses. The purchase is placed under De Lijn’s existing 2023 framework agreement covering up to 500 standard 12-metre e-buses, and represents another major milestone in the operator’s long-term electrification programme.
With this latest commitment, BYD will supply the full volume outlined in the framework agreement. De Lijn said the decision to move ahead with the additional batch reflects the strong operational performance and reliability of BYD electric buses already running in service across Flanders.
Deliveries of the new BYD B12.b units are planned to begin in a phased rollout from the second quarter of 2027. The B12.b is built on BYD’s next-generation eBus platform and features the company’s Blade Battery Chassis using Cell-to-Chassis integration, where battery packs are incorporated into the chassis structure. BYD says this design improves space utilisation and supports a low-floor layout, enhancing accessibility and passenger convenience.
De Lijn’s broader target is to achieve a 100% emission-free bus fleet by 2035, electrifying more than 2,000 buses across its network. The incoming vehicles are expected to support that shift with improved energy efficiency, proven safety standards, and enhanced comfort for both passengers and drivers. In June 2025, De Lijn began operating its first BYD electric buses from the Mortsel depot, serving the Antwerp region, and deployment is continuing to expand across Flanders.
Stella Li, Executive Vice-President of BYD, said the company is pleased to support De Lijn in the next stage of its transition to a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035. She added that the B12.b models are designed to deliver a clean and quiet mobility experience, with comfort upgrades intended to help create a more modern and attractive public transport system for local communities.
