Irving, Texas - Caterpillar Inc., a construction machinery manufacturer, has announced a collaboration with Geotab Inc., to simplify fleet management by integrating on-highway vehicle data with off-highway equipment operations. The partnership will combine Geotab’s telematics capabilities with Caterpillar’s VisionLink software, enabling customers to manage their entire fleet through a single digital platform.
By integrating Geotab’s on-highway solutions into VisionLink, the combined system will provide customers with a unified fleet management environment covering both on-road vehicles and off-road equipment, including Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar assets. The platform aims to improve uptime, productivity, safety, compliance and operational efficiency across mixed fleets.
Ogi Redzic, chief digital officer of Cat Digital, said many Caterpillar customers operate diverse fleets that include both on-highway and off-highway assets. According to him, nearly 30 percent of their fleet assets operate on highways, and integrating Geotab’s capabilities will allow customers to view all fleet data in one place. This consolidated view can help identify maintenance needs, enhance safety and compliance monitoring, and improve operational efficiency.
Geotab’s technology uses advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve fleet performance and operational insights. Neil Cawse, founder and CEO of Geotab, stated that the company’s GO telematics devices, cameras and asset trackers are designed for quick installation and automatic pairing. These devices will integrate on-highway vehicle data into Caterpillar’s VisionLink system through the MyGeotab platform, enabling streamlined fleet monitoring and compliance reporting.
Geotab currently supports nearly five million connected vehicles across more than 160 countries. When combined with the more than 1.6 million connected off-highway assets already reporting through VisionLink, the integrated system will provide a comprehensive view of fleet operations.
As part of the offering, AI-enabled cameras and telematics hardware will be available to customers through Caterpillar dealers, the parts.cat.com platform and other Caterpillar e-commerce channels. The integration aims to help customers more easily monitor equipment, optimize operations and manage both highway and off-highway assets within a single fleet management ecosystem.
