Irving, Texas - Caterpillar Inc., a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, has launched a new line of Single Life Cutting Edges designed specifically for its medium wheel loaders, offering enhanced durability and simplified maintenance for high-abrasion applications. Built from through-hardened DH-2 steel, these cutting edges feature a single bevel design, eliminating the need to monitor edge wear or flip them during their service life.
These durable Ground Engaging Tools (GET) are designed to fit a broad range of Cat medium wheel loader models, including the 950, 962, 966, 972, 980, and 982 series, covering standard, XE, and GC versions. Engineered to provide wear life that matches or surpasses traditional cutting-edge options, these new edges come at a more affordable price, offering excellent value for money.
Installation is made simple with a two-piece cutting edge system that attaches directly to the bucket without the need for additional end bits. This design not only minimizes downtime but also eliminates the hassle and expense of replacing hardware or flipping the edges halfway through their lifespan. By streamlining maintenance and reducing operational interruptions, these cutting edges help lower overall ownership costs while maximizing productivity on the job.
Mr. Tilak Inturi, Senior parts and service marketing manager at Caterpillar, said, “Our new maintenance-free Single Life Cutting Edges are the result of direct customer feedback. By eliminating the flipping process and reducing throwaway material, customers can achieve up to 40% lower costs compared to legacy systems. For users who typically don’t flip their cutting edges, this innovation can deliver up to 45% more value.”
Ideal for both high-impact and abrasive environments, these new cutting edges represent Caterpillar’s continued focus on productivity, efficiency, and customer-driven innovation.
