IRVING, Texas – Caterpillar, Inc., a construction machinery manufacturer, has introduced the next generation of its 440 and 450 Backhoe Loaders, featuring improved machine performance, advanced hydraulics, and greater versatility. The new models offer enhanced operator control options, the efficient Cat C3.6 engine, and the latest Product Link technology.
The design of the 440 and 450 aligns with Caterpillar’s 416–430 series, creating platform consistency that improves component commonality and operator familiarity. Operators can choose between Cat Soft Key and touchscreen displays or a pod-mounted joystick setup, while the 450 also offers a redesigned four-lever electronic hoe control, allowing customizable boom, stick, bucket, and swing settings.
Powered by the Cat C3.6 engine, the 440 now delivers 130 hp, a 9% increase over the previous model, while the 450 maintains 145 hp. A load-sensing piston pump provides full hydraulic force at any engine speed, and advanced controls enable precise adjustments to auxiliary flows, bucket kickout, and parallel lift functions.
The loaders also include seat-mounted and pod-mounted joystick options with dual mode operation, an upgraded touchscreen interface with real-time speedometer, and material handling modes for precise hydraulic control. QR codes integrated into the display provide operators with instant access to Cat Operator Training videos and maintenance guides.
Versatility is further enhanced with adjustable auxiliary hydraulic flow and the optional Integrated Tool Carrier (IT Coupler) for quick attachment changes. Cat Product Link with VisionLink allows remote monitoring of fuel use, service reminders, and fault alerts for better fleet management.
