Indiana, USA - Cummins Inc., a powertrain manufacturer, has introduced the next-generation X15 off-road engine for construction, agriculture, mining and industrial equipment. Built on the company’s HELM platform, the new X15 delivers 400 to 700 horsepower and can operate on diesel, biofuels or hydrogen.
The engine is designed for demanding applications such as excavators, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, mining trucks, road milling machines and cranes. Compared with the current X15, Cummins says the new model is lighter, more compact and offers up to 10% better fuel economy.
The next-gen X15 produces up to 2,360 lb.-ft. of torque, with 15% more torque and 4% higher rated power than the engine it replaces. Cummins says the engine can also replace larger-displacement engines without reducing productivity.
Maintenance has been improved with service intervals doubled to 1,000 hours. Fuel filter changes and oil drains are now aligned at the same interval. The engine also adds a maintenance-free open crankcase ventilation system, improved sensors, steel pistons, better combustion control and enhanced temperature management.
A new HE550 wastegate turbocharger with upgraded materials improves durability and performance. The engine also includes dual rear power take-off ports with a combined capacity of more than 737 lb.-ft.
For digital support, the X15 is compatible with Cummins Guidanz diagnostics through the mobile app, INLINE Bluetooth adapter or cellular connectivity, helping operators improve uptime and service efficiency.
