Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Bonn – Daimler Buses GmbH., has delivered ten Mercedes-Benz eCitaro battery-electric city buses to Stadtwerke Bonn GmbH (SWB), along with a complete turnkey charging infrastructure featuring ten charging points, designed and installed by Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH. The system will be officially presented on 20 August 2025 by SWB Managing Director Anja Wenmakers and Bonn’s Mayor Katja Dörner.

The charging depot in Friesdorf includes two CCS2 plug-in points and eight pantograph points mounted on a steel traverse, enabling simultaneous charging of eight buses. The structure is designed with mobile foundations for flexibility of relocation.

Each 12-meter eCitaro bus carries five NMC3 battery packs with a capacity of 490 kWh, supports both plug-in and pantograph charging, and integrates SmartCharge for battery life optimisation. Connectivity is enabled through the Omniplus On Bus Data Centre, with additional features like ID-based ticketing and a passenger counting system.

Passenger comfort includes space for over 80 passengers, a wheelchair bay with folding ramp, tactile handrails, climate control with antiviral filtration, USB ports, and a 29.4-inch TFT passenger information display.

Safety systems include 360° cameras, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Preventive Brake Assist 2, Traffic Sign Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and Attention Assist. Drivers benefit from a climate-controlled seat, eco steering, and an SWB-specific safety cab.

With these deliveries, Bonn takes a major step forward in the electrification of its public transport fleet, supported by Daimler Buses’ complete vehicle and infrastructure solutions.
