Scotland, UK – Fendt., an agricultural machinery manufacturer and a brand of AGCO Corporation., has ended its dealer representation at the Carlisle, Penrith and Dumfries outlets operated by Johnston Tractors, signalling a reshaping of the brand’s dealer network across northern England and southern Scotland.

The change has been made by mutual agreement between AGCO, Fendt and Johnston Tractors. With immediate effect, Johnston Tractors has ceased the promotion, sale and aftersales support of Fendt machinery at all three locations. A managed transition process is now in place to ensure continuity of service and support for existing Fendt customers during the handover period.

Johnston Tractors confirmed that its future strategy will centre on Valtra, another AGCO-owned brand. The business will now focus exclusively on Valtra sales and support, aligning its operations more closely with a single core brand that has a strong presence in the UK and markets influenced by Nordic design and operating conditions.

Fendt has announced that the territory previously covered by Johnston Tractors will be reassigned to existing and neighbouring Fendt dealers. Details regarding revised dealer responsibilities and geographic coverage are expected to be confirmed in due course. The manufacturer also thanked the Johnston Tractors team for its role in building the Fendt brand locally and wished the business well in its future direction.

From a wider market perspective, the move reflects an ongoing trend among premium tractor manufacturers towards more streamlined dealer networks. Fendt operates at the upper end of the tractor market, where sustained investment in demonstration fleets, digital sales capabilities and specialist technical training is critical. In multi-brand dealerships, maintaining that level of focus can be challenging.

By concentrating solely on Valtra, Johnston Tractors is positioned to deepen its expertise, improve operational efficiency and optimise returns on investment. For Fendt, reallocating the territory offers an opportunity to reinforce its premium positioning through dealers fully aligned with the brand’s long-term strategy.
