Portland, United States- Freightliner, a manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty trucks and a division of Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), has unveiled the fifth-generation Cascadia. This latest model enhances its legacy as a leading on-highway truck with improved safety features, better aerodynamic efficiency, and new business intelligence tools to boost profitability.

Mr. David Carson, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Daimler Truck North America, said, “Since its original introduction in 2007, our customers have purchased more than one million Freightliner Cascadias, making it the most driven Class 8 truck on North American roads. When we set out to develop this newest version and build on its legacy of excellence, we listened closely to our customers and what they, their drivers and their fleets needed. More safety features, greater efficiency and increased profitability is what we heard, and it’s what we’re proud to deliver.”

The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia enhances safety with advanced features from the Detroit Assurance Suite. Notable upgrades include Active Brake Assist 6 for detecting vehicles at odd angles and stationary pedestrians, Active Lane Assist 2 with Lane Change Assist, and Attentive Driver Protection that monitors driver responsiveness. The new Intelligent Braking Control System ensures smoother braking and extends brake life, while an electronic park brake prevents rollaways. Additional features include Dual Stage Intelligent LED Headlights for better visibility and the factory-installed MirrorCam System, which improves driver comfort and situational awareness.

The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia builds on over four generations of performance, achieving more than 35% fuel efficiency gains since its introduction. Aerodynamic enhancements, including a new hood design and improved airflow features, contribute an additional 1.9% fuel economy benefit. The optional Max Aero Bumper offers greater efficiency without compromising ground clearance or durability.

Cascadia continues to provide a range of engine options, including the powerful Detroit DD13 and DD15, with up to 505 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. The Cummins X15 and X15N natural gas engines will be available in 2025 and 2026, offering 400 to 605 hp and 1,450 to 2,050 lb-ft of torque, catering to diverse fleet needs.

The Cascadia integrates advanced technology to enhance uptime and provide operational insights through the updated Detroit Connect telematics platform. Key features include Video Capture 2.0, which records safety events for fleet managers; Remote Lock and Unlock for on-demand vehicle access; Geofencing for notifications on vehicle location; Safety Plus for monitoring Detroit Assurance systems; and Premium Remote Parameter Updates, expanding over-the-air updates from seven to over 50 parameters. This technology boosts efficiency and supports better decision-making for fleet managers.

“The fifth generation Freightliner Cascadia is more than just a truck, it’s a complete freight transportation solution designed for those ready for what’s next. It combines purposeful technologies for exceptional safety, efficiency and profitability, and it’s ready to meet the needs of each of our customers’ unique businesses," continued Carson.

The fifth generation Freightliner Cascadia is scheduled to begin production mid-2025.
