Chandigarh- Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, while presenting the budget for the financial year 2025-26, announced a series of major initiatives aimed at transforming the state’s transport infrastructure. The government plans to induct 1,025 new buses, including 500 non-AC BS-6 standard buses, 150 AC buses, and 375 electric buses, as part of its efforts to modernize and promote environmentally sustainable transport.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government's focus on improving the public transport system by modernizing bus depots and encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). To enhance passenger convenience, the government will construct new, modern bus depots under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at the following locations, Pipli, Karnal, Sector-36 Gurugram, Ballabhgarh (Faridabad), Sonipat. Additionally, a new transport building will be constructed at a cost of ₹71 crore.
To promote sustainable mobility, the government aims to include 30% of its transport fleet as electric vehicles over the next five years. The transition from diesel to electric buses is expected to save approximately 1.5 lakh liters of diesel over each bus’s lifetime, significantly reducing pollution and operational costs.
In a major relief for Divyang (differently-abled) citizens, the Chief Minister announced free bus travel across the state. Moreover, a real-time bus tracking system will be implemented, similar to railway services, enabling passengers to access live updates on bus schedules and current locations.
To simplify the motor vehicle taxation system, the government will introduce a lifetime tax in place of the existing annual tax. Additionally, automated vehicle testing stations will be set up under the PPP model in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
To enhance operational efficiency and improve cleanliness, the government will install automatic bus washing machines in every district. Modern cleaning machines will also be deployed at bus stands. Furthermore, automatic vehicle fitness testing stations will be established to streamline vehicle inspection processes.
