China -Wuyang-honda Motorcycle Co., Ltd., has launched the CBR500R Four sportbike. The motorcycle was first showcased at the China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition in September last year and is now set to reach dealerships across China. Honda also plans to introduce the model to other global markets later this year, although an India launch seems unlikely.
The CBR500R Four is powered by a 502cc inline four-cylinder engine with a ride-by-wire throttle and a compact version of Honda’s E-Clutch system. The engine produces 72bhp at 11,000rpm and 47.5Nm of torque at 10,000rpm, with a high compression ratio of 12.3:1. The motorcycle weighs 189kg, comparable to its main competitor, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, and has a claimed top speed of 209kmph.
Built around a steel frame paired with a cast aluminium swingarm, the bike features non-adjustable USD forks and a preload-adjustable KYB monoshock. Riders also get a five-inch TFT display with Honda Roadsync connectivity and a 14-litre fuel tank.
Despite plans for a global launch, Honda is unlikely to bring the CBR500R Four to India. The niche segment has limited demand, as seen with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, which was briefly sold in India before being discontinued last year.
