Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with IITs to establish a research collaboration in batteries and electrification, planning to invest USD 7 million over five years starting in 2025.

Seoul, South Korea - Hyundai Motor Company., an automobile manufacturer, has partnered with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to establish a collaborative research system focused on batteries and electrification. The three institutes involved are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Madras.
Hyundai Motor Group will establish the Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Delhi, focusing on advancements in batteries and electrification for the Indian market. The agreement was signed by Hyundai officials and IIT representatives from Delhi, Bombay, and Madras.
Mr. Naksup Sung, Head of Hyundai Motor Group R&D Planning & Coordination Center, said, "We are delighted to join forces with IITs, a group of leading engineering universities renowned for its exceptional education and research. We believe that Hyundai CoE will cultivate a strong network of talented individuals from India's academic landscape, driving innovation and future growth."
Hyundai Motor Group will invest USD 7 million from 2025 to 2029 to collaborate with IIT Delhi, Bombay, and Madras on research in batteries, electrification, software, and hydrogen fuel cells. Partnering with IIT Delhi's Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART), the initiative aims to support India’s EV ecosystem and government policies on EV expansion.
The Hyundai CoE will drive academic-industrial collaboration through joint research, expert exchanges, and training programs between Korea and India, including special lectures and technical meetings. It aims to foster talent and enhance mid- to long-term employment opportunities. This initiative aligns with Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to India, bolstered by HMIL’s successful IPO, and supports advanced research and the development of India-specific products.
